Who is Bells & Whistles Communications?

Bells & Whistles Communications, Inc. is a new internet and telecommunications service provider. We aim to provide business-grade telecommunications services and technologies to clients in residential condominium towers and apartment buildings, as well as hotel/condominium and office/condominium towers in downtown Toronto. We believe that our clients appreciate using the same advanced internet and telephony services at home as they do in the office. We are convinced that our clients like to enjoy these business services at lower costs than their current residential services from Bell and Rogers.

In summary, our value proposition is a better service (more bells and whistles) at a lower price.

What is "business-grade" internet service?

We contract with very large international internet access providers who specialize in providing high capacity internet connections to businesses. These dedicated connections provide guaranteed, always available capacity and speed for a business in an office building. With a business internet connection there are no usage caps and the down and upload speeds are symmetrical. For example, a 10 Mbps. business internet connection has both a download and upload speed of 10 Mbps.

A dedicated high capacity, high speed business grade internet connection for your building means high quality and high speed services available to you at your residence, similar to -- or in most cases better than -- what you get at your office (depending on the type of plan you sign up for and how many other residents in the building are concurrently using the building's capacity).

This type of internet service becomes more and more attractive with the introduction and increasing popularity of video -- such as Netflix -- or TV services provided over the internet (IPTV).

What is "business-grade" telephony service?

Voice-over-IP (VoiP) technology has advanced very significantly over the last few years and most businesses -- and almost all large corporations -- are moving their telephony services to VoiP based telephony platforms. Modern telephone systems provide very meaningful cost savings and many more telephony features (and integration with a business' computer systems) for user convenience and to enhance productivity.

Why should you not have all the features you have in the office also at home? And why should you pay a small fortune to Bell and Rogers each month to have them?

If you are happy not to have home phone service, because you might as well use your mobile phone, that is good too. You don't have to get our telephony services -- if you don't need any home phone service -- to still enjoy a great internet connection.

What service plans are offered?

Our internet access services are segmented into four tiers mainly according to desired speeds, as follows: (1) Platinum: $70/month (50 Mbps); (2) Gold: $50/month (35 Mbps.); (3) Silver: $45/month (20Mbps.); and (4) Bronze: $35/month (10 Mbps.)

Our telephony services consist of one plan only: for $25/month you get more than 20 calling features and unlimited local and long distance Canada and US calling (subject to reasonable use).

You also get some very inteersting additional services, such as email, calendaring, contacts and task management software that is accessible over the internet from anywhere. In addition, you will get very large (500 GB) online storage and back-up capacity for all your files, documents, fotos and videos. Please check out the details in the resources section.

What equipment do I need?

Our internet connection services include your free use (it is already included in the price) of a high-end wireless gateway (combined modem and router) with 4 ethernet ports for your wireless and wired home networking needs. It is plug-and-play and we will help you with installation.

For our telephony services, the only equipment you need is your home phone. Whether it be a SIP or IP phone or an analog phone, you just connect it to the gateway and your phone works.

Can I keep my current phone number?

Yes, there is no problem (and no cost) in keeping your current phone number. You can also get a new one or additional phone numbers. In the rare event that you wanted to cancel our service, you can take your phone number with you (at no cost).

Can I get additional phone lines?

Yes, you can get additional phone lines, so that you can make or receive more than one call at the same time. We charge $10 per month for an additional phone line.

Do I need to pay extra for 911 service?

There is no additional charge for 911 service. Please note that you can use your Bells & Whistles telephony services anywhere there is an internet connection. However, for 911 purposes, your residential address is on file. If you use your phone at another address (and do not update your 911 information) emergency services will respond at your residential address on file. Therefore, it is important that you keep the address from which you use your home phone up to date.

What telephony features are included?

All the features we offer are included in your telecommunications plan. Please refer to the features listing for a description of the features included.

Does my internet service have usage caps?

All our internet access plans are unlimited plans and you are not charged extra based on your down or upload volume.
